I have found Nature is not Matter only. She is also Spirit. CJ Jung

Thanksgiving Buffalo 47 x 28

Artistically, I am guided along by process. There is a dance of ideas in my head that interfaces with feeling the wetness and texture of clay. The kilns fiery heat transforms clay into stone, creating the final size, color and appearance of these natural materials.

Wild clays are harvested and mixed into a clay body then rolled into long slabs which are placed on an a large easel, then cut into rough modular sizes. I draw and carve the clays soft surface with a pencil or stick. Many thin applications of pure mineral pigments, layer by layer, form colors and surface textures that imulate geological effects.

These slabs are then kiln fired, assembled and attached to wood frames that are fitted with picture wires for hanging. These “clay painting murals” are now ready for permanent display. They are equally suitable inside or outdoors.
